Not a local, but we always go to Con Pane when we're in the area. Great food, great staff! Only problem is that it's on the departure path for San Diego Airport, and the overhead jet traffic can be very, very loud (but it is fun to watch the jets fly over!). Anyway, always a positive experience to visit, look forward to going back.
Enjoyed the coffee and bakery from Con Pane! Really nice dog friendly patio with a lot of seating that you can sit comfortably for a while. We ordered iced mocha, iced honey lavender, and chocolate chip cookie. Our dog enjoyed the freshly baked treat on the menu! Friendly staff members. Recommend!
Fantastic. Amazing bread & pastry - we had a divine cinnamon roll, and fantastic sandwiches (grilled cheese and roast beef on rosemary). There was a long line that moved quickly for ordering and then plenty of seating both inside and out. Kind and helpful service! I will be coming back to try the other pastries and sandwiches. Very reasonably priced - especially for some of the best food you can get in San Diego!!! Whole loafs available - we got a Gruyere and Chive to-go. And baguettes.
Nice soup and roasted turkey sandwich. The hot latte is not too bad as well. I like the atmosphere there and you can study there all day long!
Went for the cinnamon roll and it didn’t disappoint! Be sure to ask for it to be warmed up! Perfect amount of sweetness, each bite was delicious. Goes perfectly with their iced latte. Lovely outdoor patio. Despite it being Sunday morning when I visited, the line moved quickly. When you order they give you a number and then bring your items to your table.
My favorite bakery and sandwich place in San Diego. Close proximity to the airport means that I try to stop by at the start and end of my trips! I've been visiting for many, many years. My favorite is the chocolate loaf and chocolate buns that is available on weekends. The loaf can be ordered whole or sliced. Half sandwiches are quite large, about the size of my hand! I really enjoy the home roasted tomatoes in the sandwiches. Sourdough is really good and chewy. All the baked goods and breads are very fresh! Nice outdoor area with umbrellas and tables to enjoy the sunshine, preferably with good food and company. Indoor seating is also available. Edit, Jan 2024: The cafe is now open 7 days under new management. Prices are a tad higher, but still fairly reasonable for a special brunch out. The chocolate boule is still available on weekends. I've tried both 3 piece bread samplers, with both sweet and savory toppings. I love fresh bread and these do not disappoint! Edit, Jan 2025: I've been ordering my sliced bread online for pickup when I arrive at the Airport. My coffee is usually made when I pickup, so it is always nice and hot. This is still my must-visit place for all my San Diego trips. Favorite breads lately: Gruyere & Chive, Hazelnut & Raisin, and Chocolate. I prefer the outdoor seating area to watch planes go by!
Eaten in or taken to go, you can't really go wrong with the classic loaves of bread. My favorite is the kalamata but they're all amazing. Get a loaf or order a slice, they'll come with spreads. The pastries are good but a solid 3.5 maybe 4. The bread however, is definitely a 5/5.
Genuinely one of my favorite places for lunch. I’ve been going here for years, the service is always fast and respectful, and the food is always fresh and is definitely worth the place. If you’re looking for a delicious place to go, this is the spot!
